THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

Nearly three decades ago, Said Abdikarim arrived in the United States as a refugee with little more than hope for a new beginning.
Among the first things he received was a simple orange shirt.
It was a small gesture, but it represented something much bigger: welcome, dignity, and possibility.
That shirt never became just a shirt.
It became a reminder of what it means to be welcomed into a new place—and how something as simple as the way you receive a person can stay with them for a lifetime.
Years later, after building a career spanning engineering, nonprofit leadership, public service, and international guest operations, Said carried that lesson into another industry: transportation.

During his work with FIFA, he gained firsthand experience supporting VIP guests and managing the movement of more than 250 people in a high-volume, highly coordinated environment. The experience reinforced a principle that has shaped Orange Shirt Select from the beginning.
